Novel tests for comprehensive routine diagnostics of iron deficiencies

Chromatographic determination of zinc protoporphyrin and hepcidin

Immundiagnostik now offers the determination of zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) and hepcidin to complement the routine analysis of iron deficiencies.
The ZnPP/hem ratio is a sensitive and specific indicator of the iron status, independent of infections and inflammations. Our HPLC kit enables the inflammation-independent routine screening of iron deficiencies as well as the sensitive and specific evaluation of iron uptake and metabolism. The convenient determination in whole blood requires only 10 min. running time.
Hepcidin plays a central role in iron metabolism as a negative regulator of dietary iron uptake and tissue distribution. In absolute iron deficiencies, it is down-regulated to promote iron uptake. During inflammation however, hepcidin synthesis is stimulated by interleukin-6, leading to a drop in available iron supplies. The protein therefore represents a useful marker for the differentiation of iron deficiency anemia (IDA, low level) and anemia of chronic disease (ACD, high level).
Our unique LC-MS/MS kit enables for the first time the reliable determination in serum.
