This molecular biological test determines the specific alleles for the HLA gene loci DQ2 and DQ8. Both genotypes are closely linked to the occurrence of gluten intolerance symptoms. The alleles for DQ2 and DQ8 therefore function as genetic predisposition markers for coeliac disease.
