The thymus regulates multiple functions. It is mainly responsible for the immune response. It also influences the central nervous system and the endocrinium by the secretion of single peptides like Thymulin or Thymosines alpha 1 and beta 4 . Thymulin is only active in the presence of zinc forming a complex and acting on T-lymphocytes and their stem cells. The secretion of thymulin is regulated by the pituitary gland.
