For a long time, celiac disease was mainly considered to be a rare gastrointestinal disease of childhood and youth – today we know that celiac disease can manifest itself not only as a disease of the intestine, but also of the skin (dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring) and the nervous system (gluten ataxia, gluten neuropathy and gluten encephalopathy).
